Poke and Prod

Have you written yet today? It’s early still, at least for North and South America. Europeans, you still have time, too. Don’t put it off. Sit down for twenty minutes and just type. See what you come up with.

For a bit of inspiration, check out this short essay from Erin Morgenstern, author of THE NIGHT CIRCUS, on her experiences with NaNoWriMo. Then go write!

  1. I have! In fact, I just finished revising a scene and decided to take a little break and check email. Aka, procrastinate before starting next scene LOL! Finding your post gives me the little nudge I need to go back and do more. Thanks!

  2. I too have been busy writing for the past half an hour, and it’s 7pm. I’m busy reviewing / polishing bk 1 in a series of 5. Just took a short break to see what was happening on Twitter. I feel withdrawal symptons if I don’t write or review for at east 30 mins every day!

  3. I’ve written today–in fact I plugged away at a steampunk romance and got a bit of light verse polished up and snet off to an e-zine.

  4. Well, I threw a birthday party today for my one-year-old daughter, involving playing host to twenty two adults and eight kids (mostly toddlers)… sat down exhausted at 9:30pm planning to just do a few token sentences, and next thing I know it’s 11pm and I’ve got a complete thousand-word scene done. *grin* Your prodding is obviously effective!

    1. I’m so proud. And I can’t believe she’s one year old already! Happy birthday to little Miss Millie, and kudos to you for wrangling all those party-goers. An entire scene is way more than just icing on the cake–I think it’s good for those lovely candy flowers and candles, and maybe even a pony. 😉

      1. Thank you! 🙂 I can’t believe she’s (nearly – the party was a little early) one already. I was looking at my old newborn photos of her and can’t believe how tiny she was. From 4.5 lbs to 28lbs in just twelve months!

(1500 words today, which is most of another scene… obviously my productivity goes up 50% when I’m not also trying to organise a birthday party! At this rate you’ll have the draft on your desk by February… *fingers crossed*)
