No book chat right now, I’m sorry. It’s election day here in the United States, and so much hangs in the balance this year. So I just wanted to take a moment to encourage everyone who has the right to vote to go do so. Yes, the lines are long. Yes, some states will be dishing out all sorts of chaos at the polls. Brave it out. Stand up for your rights. Make your feelings known.
Go vote.
Then you can go home to write.

I’m off to New Zealand this evening. First there will be vacationing (and playtime with Nalini Singh), and then there will be the Romance Writers of New Zealand conference.
Chances are good that I won’t have much time to blog while I’m gone, so apologies now if I disappear for the duration. Regardless, I return on the 27th, and so should have some tales of travel for you soon after.

Happy hump day to all! I’m just dropping by with some quick updates for everyone. First, thanks so much to all the readers who participated in my book giveaway over the last week. It was a great turnout and I loved seeing how excited people got over the various titles. I’m off to the post office today with my stack of mailers, so winners should start seeing books in the mail in the next few days.
Along those lines, I will tease you all with the pile of shiny new ARCs sitting on the floor of my office. There’s definitely another giveaway on the horizon, so keep checking back for more information.
On the other side of the desk is my (virtual) pile of submissions. Those of you wondering if there was an ulterior motive to my spending a week blogging about book giveaways are partially correct; I’m in major reading mode, which means my brain refuses to cough up brilliant blog post topics. I’m making headway on the backlog, however, which is excellent news for all concerned, given that I’m taking pitches at the RWA conference in Anaheim next week, and that will mean a new influx of submissions. So if you are waiting on a response from me and it’s been a while, watch your inbox.
Which leads me to my final housekeeping note. I’ll be out of the office next week for the above-mentioned conference, from Tuesday, July 24th through the weekend. I’ll try to get some blog content up for you all, but don’t be surprised if it’s a touch quiet.

Tomorrow, July 10th, is the first anniversary of Writing and Rambling‘s move to Word Press, where I am happily enjoying the benefits of a spam filter that actually filters the spam. Hurray!
Because first anniversaries are traditionally “paper” anniversaries, I’m going to be giving away some books over the course of the week, starting tomorrow. Check back each day to see what’s on offer, and, of course, to enter for a chance to win! There will be all sorts of goodies, including ARCs, books already published, and maybe something a little different.

Happy March 1st, everyone! I am pleased to announce that, as of today, I am once again open to submissions. If you are interested in querying me, please follow our agency guidelines, which you can find on The Knight Agency website. Please do not send me random letters/chapters/manuscripts unless I have asked for them. Any unsolicited material will be deleted unread. Also, do not send snail mail; we are a green agency and make every effort to keep as much of our business as possible paper-free.
I am looking for new clients who write any of the following: Up-market commercial fiction; women’s fiction; urban or secondary-world fantasy; single-title romance including paranormal, suspense, historical, and contemporary; historical fiction; and young adult and middle grade fiction.
Currently, I still have a handful of full-length manuscripts that I’m considering in my submissions pile, and I hope to have the rest of that backlog addressed within the next few weeks. Regarding partial submissions, I have responded to everything I have received prior to February 24th–which basically means I’m working on submissions of requested material from the San Francisco Writers Conference.

TGIF! And I mean that with all my heart. The last few weeks have been more hectic than usual, and with the holidays on the horizon, it feels as if everyone is scrambling to get things accomplished before they take off on various vacations.
In honor of extreme work loads, particularly my own, I’m closing to new queries/submissions until otherwise stated, but I’m anticipating that it will last as least until the new year.
What does this mean? If I’ve already requested something from you, be it partial or full-length manuscript, please do send it along when you’re ready. Likewise, if you’ve been recommended to me by one of my clients or an agent/editor and they’ve already chatted with me, please go ahead and send your material. However, any queries directed to me at the agency submissions box will be either rerouted to a different TKA agent or replied to with a note that I’m not currently taking new material. The Knight Agency as a whole is still accepting submissions.
Why am I doing this? It’s been a busy year, not just a busy few weeks, and I am painfully behind in reading submissions. I am also spending a lot of time sending notes to people who are inquiring as to where they are in the queue, which is understandable since I’m so backed up and they wish to verify that my response hasn’t gone astray, but also takes more time out from doing other things, including reading said submissions. So I’m putting a halt to the flow of new material until I’ve caught up.
There has been a lot of chatter online recently regarding agents who only respond if they want to see more/sign on a writer, and who allow silence to serve as a rejection. Please note that I do respond to all requested material.
As of last night, I am the proud owner of a shiny new iPhone. How does this affect you? Well, if you’ve sent me an e-mail since I turned off my Blackberry, the chances are you’ve received a message that it bounced. Rest assured, I’m receiving all e-mail. It’s just all agency mail was being forwarded to me on my old phone, and since it is no more, the messages are bouncing from there. Our tech guy needs to turn off the forwarding for me, so my apologies until he can take care of it.
I’m off today for Surrey, B.C., Canada for the Surrey International Writers’ Conference, where I’ll be taking pitches and chatting with writers, editors, and other agents through Sunday.
