He always will be one of the greats for me. I started to read his books when I was just thirteen years old, curious and hungry for words that I didn’t quiet understand just yet. Reading his books now, I miss something of that curious child inside me, that read with an open mind and pure heart. Now much wiser, with a lot of experiences under my belt ( good and bad ), it is a different kind of relationship with his work. None the less, he will always inspire, surprise and even shock in a good way and that’s what books should be about. To read them and make them your own, translate them into your own understanding, regardless where you are on your life journey.
Vonnegut’s zaniness certainly didn’t take away from the depth of his work. Finding his work at an early age, he opened my mind to many possibilities of the universe while pointing out the absurdities of humanity. You can see my portrait where I paid tribute to the author and say Sweet Dreams, Mr. Vonnegut at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2011/11/happy-birthday-mr-vonnegut.html
